Grand Rapids, MI – Brian Diemer, Grand Rapids native, three time Olympian and a Bronze Medal winner in the 1984 Steeplechase, will be returning to partner once again with Amerikam for the 16 th annual Brian Diemer – Amerikam 5 K Race on Saturday, June 11, 2005. The race will be held at 9:00 A.M. in Cutlerville, MI and is a major feature of Cutlerville Days, an annual community event. Along with Amerikam employees, Cutlerville Christian School has developed a special relationship with Brian Diemer over the years and work the Race together with other volunteers.
Diemer is still devoted to running and serving as a mentor to the students he coaches and has been named Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year numerous times in the last decade. In 2000 he was named a NCAA D3 National Coach of the Year in men’s cross-country. Diemer also is a member of the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame. He is currently the coach of the girls’ cross-country team at Calvin College, where he has taught since 1986.
The Brian Diemer – Amerikam 5 K Race is considered the official second leg of the Corporate Triple Crown sponsored by Spectrum Health, with the Irish Jig and the Reeds Lake Run bracketing it as first and third legs. Robert Hyde and Sally Pols will again serve as Race Directors for the Brian Diemer – Amerikam 5 K. They encourage volunteers who’d like to work the race to call 616-299-4101.
The Race course will take runners through the Pine Rest Campus, down the Cutlerville Parade route and finish in the heart of the Cutlerville Days Celebration. The Parade begins at 9:30 and Race awards will be distributed at 10:30. A portion of the proceeds from Race registrations will be donated to the Guiding Light Mission in Grand Rapids as well as Kids Hope USA.
